Grounding your energy is a crucial part of maintaining your alignment. No matter how much time or space you have, there is a way to ground your energy
Deep belly breathing: Inhale deeply through your nose all the way into your belly. Stretch that in breath out as long as you can. Hold for a beat or 2. Exhale through your mouth emptying the belly, then the lungs. Hold for a beat and repeat from the beginning. You are creating space with your breath. Making sure you use your whole torso and taking long breaths will help to calm your nervous system and shift your energy back into your core.
Plant Yourself: This can be accomplished by putting both feet flat on the floor if standing, focusing on full contact between your sits bones and the surface you rest on if you are seated, or noticing all the places your body is supported if you are lying down. In each position, take time to feel the contact your body has with the ground. Give gratitude for the support you are receiving. Even though we expect the floor/chair/bed to hold us up, there is no reason we shouldn't be grateful for it! Take a few deep breaths in this position. To deepen this practice, visualize roots growing from each point of contact as deep and as wide as needed to support you fully.
Limbic Leap: If your energy is swirling and you're having a hard time getting settled, use an Essential Oil to bypass your thinking mind and tap directly into your Limbic brain. Take a few drops of your chosen oil, my favorites for this purpose are Grounding, Evergreen Essence, and Release, and apply to the bottoms of your feet, your low back, your heart, and then rub your palms together and bring them to your nose. Inhale deeply. On your second breath, set the intention to center your energy and pull it down into your body. Take as many breaths and needed to feel your energy shift. You can apply the essential oil as needed throughout the day. *Please be sure you are using completely pure, high quality essential oils
Body oiling: The act of therapeutic touch is undoubtedly healing. Let's not forget that we can offer that healing to ourselves. Turn the simple act of applying lotion or body oil into a grounding ritual by slowing down and adding intention. Feel the contact between your skin. Allow yourself to focus completely on the feeling of the activity. Offer yourself some words of affirmation and/or gratitude. Some examples: "I am thankful for this body that holds me." "I call back to myself all the parts of myself I may have given away today and I lovingly return all the parts of others I may have taken on today." "I am here in this current moment, right now. I don't need to be anywhere else right now, than right here." Combine deep breathing for added benefits.
Guide Yourself to Grounding: Listen to meditation music composed specifically to help you ground your energy. Alternatively, you may enjoy guided meditations. I have a few you may enjoy. Root Chakra Balancing Meditation, Riverside Sound Bath.
Healing Bath: You can turn a regular bath into a healing session with the right resources! May I suggest the Come Home Bath Tea? Just add a few tablespoons to a muslin bag or a tea ball infuser and add to your bath. Allow the essences of the plants in the Bath Tea to help you call your energy back in and draw nourishment from nature. Alternatively, you can craft your own bath tea using herbs, roots, and barks of your favorite plant allies.
Schedule a Healing Session: Sometimes we need to call on others to hold space for us. I highly encourage you to give yourself the gift of a session. You can choose whatever would help you feel the most nourished. Is it a facial, a massage, an energy healing session or a therapy session? You get to choose. It's a powerful act in itself to stop and ask yourself, what would make me feel more resourced right now? What would feel best to me? Even more powerful to follow through with booking the session or making time for the experience that comes to mind when you ask yourself that question.
